I was camping with my dad as a kid and I was being eaten alive! My dad said my blood had to be sweet! I remember wishing there was a way to make my blood sour so they'd stop biting!! I felt so itchy and terrible. I wish I'd had this kit back then! My story isn't strange or really off the wall, but I remember it as terribly uncomfortable!! Jodi Brown, Lansdale, PA Mosquitoes are attracted to Carbon Dioxide and Lactic Acid. |

Just a couple of weeks ago one of my friends got bit many times by mosquitos, which resulted in her getting a Staph infection, which then turned into MRSA. She was in the hospital for what seemed like forever. I knew that they transmitted many different diseases but that was the first I had heard of them transferring Staph. Very Scary! My mother told me that bumble bees didn't sting...which is why I was never careful avoiding them when I was younger. One day, I was playing in the yard and I must have been bothering a bumble bee because it flew at me and I ran. Here is where I should also say I was wearing a bathing suit top. The bumble bee stung me in the side, but I started to swell so quickly that it got stuck and didn't fall off. So I ran into the house screaming like a maniac because it hurt SO BAD only to have my mother tell me that I had to get the bee out myself since she is allergic to bees. Imagine the picture: a 12 year old girl with her side swollen twice normal size, trying to get a still alive bee out of her with a large pair of tweezers. It was awful. And the swelling took about 2 weeks to go down. Victoria Arya, Barboursville, VA |

I was in Florida on vacation playing outside with my kids when I jumped into an ant hill. They all stuck on my foot and we had to pick them off my foot with a tweezer. It hurt really bad and my foot got swollen. After that, I now will always wear closed shoes when I'm in Florida in the grass. Sarah Adams, Richmond Hill, NY Don't Bite Me! Patch does not work on ants. Be careful! |

I was walking and I had my purse hanging on my shoulders and I had an apple in it. I went to reach for the apple, and there was a bee on it and i got stung! I will never forget that. Elba Avery, Morgan Hill, CA Don't Bite Me! Patch does not help with bee stings. |

My son was outside with us one night at my parent's house. He was running around catching (or trying to catch) fireflies. He did catch one and he did it with a net. He came to us and put the net near us and we got his little bug container for him to put it in and watch the fire fly glow. As we were getting it out of the net, it landed on his arm and my husband quickly took it off as my son starting screaming. I asked what was wrong and he said the bug burned him with his glowin powers. We laughed for the rest of the weekend!!! Tammy Ellingson, Brooklyn Park, MN |

We were camping last summer with our children. Our daughter who was 1 at the time got so bit up that her eye was almost swollen shut. Her poor face was all swollen. We went to the store and everyone would look at us funny and then we would tell them what happened and they would feel sorry for her. Never thought we would have to explain bug bites! Finally took her to the doctor to see if it was more than bad bug bites. Learned to carry benadryl with us. Kate Laier, Hayward, WI |

We camped out at nearby Palisade's lake. The mosquitoes were, I swear, a half inch in size. I swear they were the worst I had ever seen. We left after one night. I saw them swarming in my sleep for the next two nights! What a nightmare. Cindy Wagner, Sugar City, ID Put the Don't Bite Me! Patch on two hours prior to enjoying time outdoors. |

It was a big day for me. Senior portrait day. We had finished the drape shots and were going to go outside for some shots in the barn. I was getting ready to do some shots in the hay and here comes a bee. It would swarm every time I got ready to say "Cheese" Eventually it was obsessed with me. Apparently, I was in it's spotlight. I started swatting and it was ready to attack. I got up and ran out of the barn with the photographer in tears with laughter. The bee finally won the battle. It got me right under my arm. For the rest of the photo shoot I had to deal with runny mascara and my hair was a mess. Tanya Alexander, Arab AL

Way back in the days when I was a lad of 10 to 12 I went on a camping trip with the Boy Scouts to a camping place in California. Once we got there we were greeted by a roving band of blood pirates. They surrounded us and ransacked our bodies for our precious cargo; our blood! I was bitten mercilessly. So our time fulfilled, we all went back to our regular domiciles where upon I became ill. It acted like the flu only it grew worse. I became very ill and had to spend a short day stay in the hospital. The doctors scratched their collective heads but not my bites. Then they found these giant horse pills that they gave me and boy, did that get a reaction! After a couple of weeks I became healthy again and now I have made it to the ripe young age of 55! I hate mosquitoes. Hurray for Don't Bite Me! patches! Gregory Bettidge, Des Moines WA If a bug bite makes you ill, becomes inflamed or infected, see a doctor immediately. |

While hunting I had to use the "facilities" as you may call it. I had to drop my hunting pants and while taking care of business I did not realize that I had a tick climb upon my privates. Well you can imagine that tick grabbed hold and I didn't realize that until several hours later when i felt a sore spot and was ready to shower. Well that was a discovery i wasn't ready for..but that tick had started to embed himself into my privates. It was very unpleasant and took a while to remove it after phone calls to the doctor. etc.. I finally got the nerve to take care of it myself. Mission accomplished but that was something i don't want to experience again. Perhaps if I had the Don't Bite Me Patch I would have been a happy hunter. Thanks for bringing out this embarrassing story. Rob Myers, Pennsylvania |

One fishing trip resulted in 25 insect bites. And to be honest, I don't even know 'what' bit me. The evening started with me fishing with my Father-In-Law-to-be. Everything was fine at first, but then again, there was still light out when we started. As soon as nightfall came, so did the unseen insects. By the end of the night, I was scratching like a dog with fleas. It took 2 weeks for the bites to go away. That was last year. This year, my Father-In-Law was ready. As soon as we got out of the car, he handed me a patch. = ) Vanna Chan, Beltsville, MD Mosquitoes come out at night to "feed". |

When the kids were little we went camping up in the Cascades. One day we took all the kids for a walk. It was a beautiful day but because they were little they got tired pretty fast. We thought it would be a good idea to get off the trail and cut through the woods to go back to camp. Wrong. We got half way through and were swarmed by thousands of mosquitoes. It was the craziest thing I ever saw. My sister-in-law and I had to try and pick up all the kids (6 of them) and run the rest of the way. This was back in the 70's and I wish we would have had the Don't Bite Me! Patch back then. We had to put Calamine on all of them, they were bitten on all their arms and legs. The bugs around here are relentless. We live in a private lake subdivision, a rural area and I have been chased by swarms of mosquitoes. But the best one was riding on the back of the motorcycle and a hornet collided with me, got me in the head, migrated to my neck, got me there too. I have tried just about every product out there to keep the pests down to a dull roar, we love to be outside and wont let the bugs keep us in.... Shelley Kozloski, Alger, MI |
